Year End Update Part 3

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

So, here we are again! Part 3 of 2011′s year end update. Just one or two more posts to go on that subject. And our new website will be up in the next week or two. Finally! To hold you over here are a few samples from our buddies at Northwest Paddle Surfers. Cool stuff. Cool gear. Blog, community, events, you name it. If you can brave the cold water check em’ out!

Above is a perfect example of how using just the shirt and two colors can make it look like a lot more. We are just using an off white blue and a darker pantone blue with half tones to create the illusion of a few more colors. Cool design and event by the way!

Another cool design for NW Paddle Surfers.

Next is a perfect example of our discharge ink. Before the ink is “cured,” or dried through one of industrial dryers it looks faint or sometimes you see almost nothing at all. That is because it is actually removing the dye of the fabric and replacing it with a pantone color of your choice. Pretty cool as after the first washing you feel nothing but shirt instead of a rubbery plastisol feel.

And here is the finished product!

And here is another example of discharge ink on a bandanna for DTE. That is a big print – 20″ x 20″.

And another example of discharge ink for Olde English Hardwoods of Seattle. Since it is a very large chest print it is nice not to be wearing a “sheet of plastic” across the chest. Just shirt.

Year End Update Part 2

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Hey again,

We are back with part two of our year end update! Trust me, we have a few more to go. Lots of garments were printed, lots of polybags were filled with shirts and hoodies, a ton of barcodes went here and there, and at the Christmas party a lot of food and beers were drunk. And one parking ticket. Everyone else took cabs. So anyway, here are a few more prints we have done.

The cute shirts are for the amazing artist Justin Hillgrove, better known as Imps and Monsters. Go check his awesome work out at impsandmonster.com Really, really cool stuff!

And real quick a bunch of G S P shirts, or us, Gorilla Screen Printing. We print a lot of stuff for ourselves to give away. Stop by and grab one!

Hailing from the dark and dreary NorthWest were we reside comes Portland’s almighty Aldebaran. Great heavy, slow doomy metal for ya’! This is a great example of a “vintage” color off white water based print. Nothing but shirt, super detailed. Art by the amazing Dan Seagrave responsible for all the awesome 80′s and 90′s Earache Records covers! Go to http://aldebarandoom.blogspot.com/ now!

Part 3 of the Year End Update coming in the next couple of days!

Year End Update Part 1

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Hey hey,

It has been a few months since our last update and lots to catch up on! GSP has been swamped with a record breaking year for us. In the next few months we will be adding another automatic press and new services as well. And a new website to fill everyone in about what is happening here and there for us. Besides a new website and presses we will be relocating next year to a much larger facility and events planned in Long Beach CA and Las Vegas!

The Oatmeal has been killing it. Check out cats, lizards, unicorns, cats, and hot sauce over there! And buy a shirt. Good stuff all around

Sup Pop put out a lot of records, CD’s, digital downloads, tapes, well probably not tapes, but a ton of new releases and shirts to go with them. Here are just a tiny, tiny bunch of samples.

And our buddies over at NorthWest Riders had an amazing year as well. Go over there now and support em’. Start wearing their stuff now as you are going to see a lot of them from now on!

Raining Sub Pop Shirts!

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Hey People,

So we have been doing a lot of shirts for Sub Pop Records and their bands lately. Here are just a few!

SubPop

Sub Pop on world domination…

SubPop

Sub Pop’s new band The Head and the Heart

Head and Heart

And Sub Pop’s Obits!!! What of Obits’ new record? Well, for starters, it’s their second full-length, and it’s called Moody, Standard and Poor. It was recorded at Brooklyn’s Saltlands Studio by Eli Janney and Geoff Sanoff. Sub Pop will release it on March 29, 2011. And how will Moody, Standard and Poor make you feel? The short answer is: great. Not Smoking-An-Eightball-Of-Coke great. But Alive-To-New-Listening Experiences great. The long answer is that these twelve songs will take you on a series of emotional road trips. Some will be as brief as a walk to the fridge. Others will be epic pilgrimages to the shady hinterlands of your subconscious. Great records can do this. Moody, Standard and Poor is no exception.

Obits!

And CWB stopped by and asked us to help them out with a few projects as well! Reminds us of some guys named Run DMC. Cool shirts!

Much. much more coming soon! We promise. This summer is looking great!

The Deep of Winter

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Howdy People!

So it is the middle of winter and we have been lucky to be printing a lot of garments for our buddies at Sub Pop Records! Here is a quick glance of just a few of the new designs/bands for Sub Pop.

Papercuts new and 4th album Fading Parade just came out. Now go get it and this shirt!

From time to time Sub Pop puts out a new logo shirt or design for themselves. This one explains it all, “Have It Our Way.”  This isn’t Burger King folks!

Sub Pop Records

Sub Pop Records

Formed in Glasgow in 1987, The Vaselines released two singles and one album (Dum Dum on the 53rd and 3rd label) and then split up in 1989 (in the same week their album was released). They might have faded into obscurity but for the intervention of a certain band from Seattle. Nirvana covered three Vaselines songs, helping to fuel a growing after-the-fact appreciation of their seedy, two-and-a-half chord, garage pop manifesto. Founding members Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee remained musically active between then and now: the former with Captain America aka Eugenius and finally as a solo artist; McKee with Painkillers and Suckle. Eugene and Frances also collaborated intermittently in the intervening years and, in 2008, toured America (including a stand-out appearance at Sub Pop’s 20th anniversary festival, SP20), Brazil and Japan and played some UK festivals. The Vaselines “re-connected” with wildly appreciative audiences who had blinked and missed them the first time round. Buoyed by the success of their live return, the two punk rock chums decided to go back into the studio. And print some shirts. A nice simple one color Vaselines black on white print!

A very nicely printed one color Dum Dum Girl’s from LA! New EP just came out with this new shirt!

J Mascis – yup, the founder of Dinosaur Jr. has a new shirt for you. This man is responsible for a long string of bands—Deep Wound, Dinosaur Jr., Gobblehoof, Velvet Monkeys, the Fog, Witch, Sweet Apple—and he has guested on a zillion other recordings. Check it out below.

simple one color can look like a lot more.

Fall : Part One

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Hey,

Below is Part One of our Fall samples. We have been doing a lot of everything! Water based printing, over sized and over seams, discharge, glow in the dark, and a lot more! Part Two tomorrow. So here goes…

From our friends over at K2!!!

A nice 30,000+ order. Over sized print at 20″ x 20.”  Women’s shirts on white and men’s on black. The print on the lady shirts was a bit smaller, 16″ x 16″, but still a good size print. Printed in 4 days on one of our presses and then poly bagged, bar coded, and shipped out. Right below is a “mock up” of the lady shirts from K2. Then we provide the printing K2 needs as requested. Luckily, one of our presses gives us the print area of 20″ x 23″ so we were good to go!

And for K2′s Planet Earth line we did some more printing. Tons and tons of cool designs and prints. Right below is a “vintage” black and white surfing photo. By using correct mesh and tension on correct frames, we are capable of bringing the details and feelings of a photo. And super soft! As stated above, with the correct equipment we are capable of printing highly detailed prints with almost no “hand,” were you feel nothing but shirts.
